International Disaster Risk Reduction Day : Samarth 2023

On October 4, 2023, in commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction as part of the SAMARTH 2023 initiative (October 1st to October 15th, 2023an impactful nukkadnatak (street play) was performed by Lok Sanskriti Kala Manch. This event was organized collaboratively by the Information and Public Relations Department, Shimla, the District Disaster Management Authority, Sirmour, and the Disaster Management Cell of Shree Guru Gobind Singh Ji Govt College Paonta Sahib.

The noteworthy performance took place under the banner of SAMARTH 2023 aiming to promote disaster awareness and preparedness among the public. Local artists, guided by the District Disaster Management Authority, skilfully blended folk songs and traditional dances to convey the impact of natural disasters that had affected Himachal Pradesh during the current year, particularly emphasizing human factors contributing to these crises.

Furthermore, the street play conveyed essential information regarding earthquake preparedness, underlining the importance of seeking safety in open areas during seismic events and adhering to safety guidelines. The artists passionately urged every citizen of Himachal to actively contribute to the Disaster Management Relief Fund , fostering a sense of communal responsibility for enhancing disaster preparedness.

Esteemed individuals, including Dr. Vibhav Kumar Shukla (Principal of Shri Guru Govind Singh Govt. Degree College, Paonta Sahib), Prof. Vimmi Rani (Coordinator of the Disaster Management Cell  of the college ),  members of the disaster management cell and senior professors, graced the event with their presence. In his closing remarks, Dr. Vibhav Kumar Shukla underscored the necessity for fundamental changes in disaster preparedness strategies and commended the local artists for their dedication.

Professor Vimmi Rani, the program coordinator, expressed her gratitude to all staff members, students, and local artists for their active participation and reiterated the paramount importance of disaster preparedness and readiness among students and the wider community.
